The Steam Angel
Among the countless engineered beings within the Luminarks world, few carried responsibilities as important as the Steam Angels. While the Steam Angel of Light traveled the realms restoring hope and illumination, another order existed with an even deeper purpose.
They were guardians of conscious awareness.
This one was known simply as The Steam Angel.
The ancients understood that most beings moved through existence asleep. People followed routines, consumed distractions, chased survival, and repeated inherited patterns without ever questioning why. Entire civilizations could function while remaining disconnected from themselves, from one another, and from the living energy surrounding them.
The Steam Angel existed to interrupt that sleep.
Its body was constructed from flowing organic matter intertwined with pressure chambers, mechanical veins, and radiant steam driven by conscious energy itself. Massive wings released currents capable of awakening dormant perception within those nearby. Wherever the Angel traveled, people began to notice the world differently.
Colors appeared more vivid.
Thoughts became clearer.
Time seemed to slow.
Most importantly, people began questioning the systems controlling their lives.
The Steam Angel did not give answers. It expanded awareness.
Some feared the being because conscious awareness often arrived painfully. To awaken meant confronting illusion, recognizing manipulation, and seeing the disconnect between material obsession and spiritual purpose. Many preferred comfort over awareness.
But the Steam Angel continued its work regardless.
It moved silently through cities and forgotten wastelands awakening consciousness wherever it traveled. The ancients believed awareness was the beginning of all transformation because a soul cannot evolve until it first becomes aware of itself.
And so the Steam Angel remained a living force of awakening within the Luminarks world.
